No to sex tourism, yes to al solidarity tourism
The 2005 campaign of Regina Pacis Fund
The sex tourism is a real evil that offends the dignity of all that girls, who, mainly for economic needs, makes it possible, but is also a shame that mortifies all that men, who practice it. It about an anything but rare custom, particular case in East European Countries, generated mainly buy occidental men – including Italians – who considers these lands as a place “to purchase” girls and sex. The Regina Pacis Fund had called for 2005 a condemnation campaign against this embarrassing immoral behavior, at the same time promoting a solidarity tourism, able to find out on most poor lands of Europe first of all riches of humanity, as well as landscape, historical and cultural ones.
Regina Pacis Fund can organize journeys to poor, but also wonderful lands of East Europe, for all those, who want to discover the Lands the most of women working in Italy as carers are coming from or, unfortunately, the girls for the prostitution market are trafficked from.
A story about how diffuse are the practice of sex tourism for example in Moldova it can be red in the article of Dumitru Lazur, hereby presented, published on January 24, 2005 in daily Moldavian newspaper «Jurnal de Chisinau» on page 4.
Sex tour, all included
Giovanni, Luigi and Piero, three Italian more than 40 years old, spent their weekend in the end of the year in Republic of Moldova. They arrived at Chisinau neither to see the century-old monasteries, nor to go to the wine-cellars of Cricova or Milestii Mici, but for... non-stop entertainments with Moldavian prostitutes. In occident the Moldavian girls of easy virtue enjoy ill fame, as girls offering cheaply and quality sexual services, while the sex tourism is considered nowadays one of the most profitable businesses. The Italians arrived in Moldova for the first time and they didn’t regret having chosen Chisinau to celebrate the New Year’s Day. Three days of holydays costed for everyone 700 euro, the cost including the return ticket by air, hotel accommodation, three “beautiful” girls (alternated everyday), the wine, the Champaign, delicious food. They say that a New Year’s Day holiday at Poiana Brasov in Romania would cost two-three times more. «The Moldavian girls are enchanting! You may have low-priced sex with young and beautiful girls only in poorest European countries!», say the satisfied guests.
50-100 euro per night
Luigi says he has heard about the “Moldavian paradise” from one of his friends, who visited Chisinau the last year during the football match of Italian national squad. His friend was nicely surprised to find out that young girls of 18-20 years old, blondes, brunettes, red-haired, with velvety skin and angelic look give oneself for 50-100 euro overnight. «In Schengen zone for ten minutes of sex with ugly and faded prostitute one should pay 50 euro. And only for regular sex. But Moldavian girls for the same sum are ready to satisfy every sexual whim. Now see the difference? Do you see? », says Luigi. The Italians tell to have hooked prostitutes in the hotel hall or in café-bars of commercial centers of capital. As a last resort, they use the services of ponces, who often lounge around the hotels. You, naturally, should pay 10-15 euro more for such kind of service.
Patrons and criminal networks
These three Italians arrived at Chisinau on their own, with eyes practically closed. If they had recourse to an agency it would cost them 200-300 euro more. But they didn’t thought about organization of sojourn. According to police sources the “agencies” usually work in Turkey. Less in Italy, Spain, France, etc. Actually, the Turkish are “nourishing” the sex tourism in Moldova. One Turkish man, who had felt the scent of Moldavian girls, spends once a month the weekend in Chisinau. The sex agencies usually work under cover of travel agencies, having contact with transnational criminal groups dealing with sex business. This kind of business is more profitable and less risky that women trade in Arabic world for sexual exploitation. Commonly, an agency offers the standard service package. It includes a cover-girl, hotel accommodation (usually the clients choose two-three stars hotels, rarely four stars) and visits of Cricova wine-cellars (by request).
Mr. Sergiu Chirnitchi, main expert of Public relations office of CGP had confirmed for «Jurnal» that certain travel agencies offer to foreign people «sex tours» in Republic of Moldova. «Well-to-do guests come to Chisinau only to pass the weekend with our girls. What is the reason? In Chisinau a girl costs 50 euro overnight, whereas in occident one can buy only an hour of pleasure», remarks S. Chirnitchi. The last year the Police have uncovered an agency offering sex tourism. The arrested people didn’t confess and pleaded not guilty for practicing sex tourism. As consequence, the prostitutes were released after paying “symbolic” fine, being free to practice the most ancient world profession. According to art. 171 of Administrative Codex of Republic of Moldova, the prostitution foresees a fine of 50-75 minimal salaries (900-1.350 lei) or 20 days of prison.

Piero says he was spellbound of beauty and innocence of our girls, and has even decided to find himself a wife in Moldova. Not a prostitute, but a «simple girl, honest, a perfect lover and housewife ».

Being more and more determined to take care and defend the dignity of Moldavian women, the Regina Pacis Fund decided to conduct, during all 2005, a national campaign of fight against sex tourism, promoting at the same time the development of solidarity tourism, by means of holidays periods and mainly to discover the poor territories of East Europe, especially in Moldova.
