Young women for sale
A lot has been said about the grievous phenomenon, concerning young Moldavian women, including those underaged. Such phenomenon exists, though an important process of realizing the seriousness of the problem has been observed, because the information presented by different local and international organizations, by the Catholic Church as well, has made it possible for young people to learn, to start thinking and to understand the risk they run when they accept a job in different establishments or when they are deceived to perform dubious kinds of work. Traffic aimed for sexual exploitation means a kind of agreement on the part of victim that is why it should be recognized that there are a certain percentage of those who realize their choice and conditions in which they will have to live and work.
Women traffic is directed to the countries where sex-tourism is developed and where the culture of man supremacy exists, according to which a woman is perceived just as a thing to use. We are mainly speaking about Turkey, Israel, Arabic countries, Cyprus, Greece, Balkan countries and also Italy, France, Germany and Spain. In Albania there are still a lot of young Moldavian women who have been there since the time when “the land of eagles” served as a point of departure to Europe through Italy by sea.
In the above mentioned countries there are a lot of young Moldavian women who are exploited in establishments, private premises which are intended for paid sexual services, at least in the places where it is legal, or illegally along the streets in Italy or France, where it is evidently observed.
It is extremely difficult for a woman involved into the mechanism of organized criminality to escape from it, because besides the greatest physical violence the victims – the women are really victims – suffer psychological pressure, family blackmail.
Criminal organizations are divided into those which deal with women traffic and those which exploit women: women traffic dealers find a girl on the territory of Moldova, persuade her, deceive or steal in order to sell her to the groups of souteneurs at the place later. Organizations of women traffic traders are mainly of Russian, Moldavian and Romanian origin. Groups of souteneurs buy a victim and use her at the place of destination, gaining great profits. Such organizations consist of the Slavs, Romanians, Albanians, Moroccans, Ukrainians and they come to an agreement with the criminal elements on the territory where the girl is exploited.
They demand 15-20 sexual services a day from a girl forced to work along the street, which gives average daily earnings of 500-700 euro. A different kind of daily earnings is demanded from the girl working in the public houses or “closed houses”, where there are fewer clients, but the pay for the service is higher, as far as the clients take care of their health safety; they do not use condoms during the sexual acts, they are wealthy people or businessmen, that is why they pay for being anonymous.
There is a difference between those who work along the streets and those who work in dwellings, making appointments by telephone. Illegal status greatly restricts the use of the girl that is why everything takes place either in the street or at home. Legal status makes it possible to use a girl in the centres of prosperity at the position of a masseuse or companion and hostesses for high salaries which come to 2000 euro a day.
A girl gives the organization a profit of 15000 euro a month. Her earnings depend on a situation: at the best she earns 50%, which is something about 3000 euro, other girls survive on a generous present of 10 euro a day and an ocean of promises.
The forms of exploitation of a girl are very different, depending on the territory, criminal type, physical value of the woman, on the laws functioning on the territory where the exploitation takes place.
The period of exploitation depends on a person, but it cannot be too long. A woman at the age of twenty-four cannot be compared, as far as sexual services is concerned, with the girl at the age from eighteen to twenty, that is why the market narrows and the profits go down. Organizations are in need of young women, they realize that the period of using a woman has to be limited and besides, they constantly need to change women in order to avoid police inspections.
Sometimes a girl manage to escape from the control of the organization, but having no help on the territory, she risks getting under the control of other organizations or shameless solitary souteneurs. A lot of them get help from the clients themselves and with their help they find a different job.
In some countries, such as Italy, Belgium and Holland to some extent, legislation allows the girls who ask for help and who have a possibility to sue the organization that sold and exploited bodies, provides participation in the aid programs, assignment official residence permit, professional training, getting a job and also voluntary return to the motherland.
A lot of girls are moved from one country to another, others are killed or they simply disappear; there are more and more cases when women get serious diseases, many of them are arrested by the police and departed from the country. Exploitation arouses psychological and psychical shock, different forms of mutilation and attempts to commit a suicide.
Girls often come across with unexpected and undesirable pregnancy that is why they undergo illegal abortions including those made unprofessionally and without any medical care; or, being pregnant girls continue practicing prostitution and hope to deliver a child secretly in order to sell it later at the market of illegal adoptions and organ transplantations.
In Europe, intensive activity is launched by a great number of organizations, many of which belong to Catholic Church. The representatives of the organizations meet with the girls in enterprises or along the streets, help them to escape from the souteneurs, assist them in physical and psychological rehabilitation, perform, within the law regulations, the return of the women home; they take measures for the reunion of the families.
The intensity of the phenomenon has presented a vast field for thoughts and specific efforts on all the levels, the meaning of which has to be highly marked. Here it becomes clear what significance preventive measures get. That is why, if, on the one hand, it is necessary to work in the direction of routs of exploitation in Europe, in order to meet and save victims, on the other hand, it is necessary to get proper informational support on the territory of Moldova.
